Vehicle crash on the Perak-Jeli border highway results in the tragic deaths of a mother and her baby, and injuries to five other individuals when an MPV collides with a lorry.
In a tragic incident, an accident occurred on the East-West Expressway (JRTB) near the Perak-Jeli border at KM15. The incident involved a Perodua Alza MPV and a lorry.
The accident was reported through the MERS999 system at 3:20 pm, and the Jeli Fire and Rescue Station was promptly dispatched to the scene. The rescue operation began at 3:58 pm and was completed at 4:17 pm.
Two victims, a woman in her 40s and a baby girl, approximately nine months old, tragically lost their lives at the scene of the accident. Two passengers in the Perodua Alza MPV also perished in the accident. Five other individuals were injured and were sent to the Jeli Hospital for further treatment.
The identities of all victims are currently under police investigation. The bodies of the two victims were sent to the Jeli Hospital Forensic Unit for an autopsy.
The Perodua Alza MPV lost control while negotiating a corner and entered the opposite lane, leading to the collision. The case is being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
The Jeli Fire and Rescue Station Chief, Azhar Elmi Mustofar, provided information about the accident to Bernama. The fire and rescue team extricated the trapped victims from the accident scene before handing them over to the police and the Ministry of Health for further action.
The police station where the investigation of the traffic accident is being conducted could not be identified from the search results.
