On Wednesday, July 31, 2024, a rear-end collision occurred on the B8n between Kaiserswerth and Kalkum at approximately 15:17.
According to reports, a car collided with a car-trailer combination that was stationary due to heavy traffic. The driver of the car, a 61-year-old man from Dinslaken, was unable to brake in time and collided with the stationary vehicle.
Unfortunately, the impact caused the 61-year-old's VW to catch fire immediately, resulting in complete destruction of the vehicle. The driver of the car-trailer combination, a 49-year-old Dutchman, remained uninjured.
Following the collision, the police implemented a full closure in the direction of Duisburg due to the incident. Incoming vehicles were diverted via the Niederrheinstraße. The B8n between Kaiserswerth and Kalkum was also closed during the extinguishing and recovery operations.
The 61-year-old driver from Dinslaken was taken to a hospital in Düsseldorf with minor injuries. The driver of the car-trailer combination was not publicly identified.
The closure was not lifted until the evening, causing significant traffic disruption. However, around 19:00, one lane was reopened, providing some relief to the affected commuters.
The incident resulted in a tragic loss and a disruption to the usual flow of traffic on the B8n. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the heavy traffic that led to the collision.
