On Saturday, August 30, 2025, Verizon experienced a major nationwide network outage around 9 AM ET. The outage, which affected millions of customers across the USA from California to New York, was caused by a software error that left many devices stuck in SOS mode without call or data service.

According to reports by CBS, the issue was first noticed around 3:30 p.m., with a surge in Verizon outage reports on Downdetector.com. By the evening, around 6,000 incidents had been reported.

The outages were predominantly affecting users in major cities such as Chicago, Atlanta, Orlando, Minneapolis, Tampa, Los Angeles, Omaha, and Indianapolis. Verizon engineers are working diligently to identify and solve the issue.

Verizon has apologised for any inconvenience caused by the outage and appreciates the patience of its customers during this time. For updates on service in specific areas, customers can visit Verizon's Check Network Status page.

As this is a developing story, we encourage readers to check back for updates. It's important to note that more than 23,600 Verizon users were affected by the outage.

We understand that this outage has caused significant disruptions and we will continue to monitor the situation closely. We hope that Verizon is able to resolve the issue promptly and restore service to all affected customers.
