Max Verstappen, the four-time Formula 1 World Champion, is set to make his Nordschleife debut in a GT3 car. The Dutch racing legend will attend a driver's course for the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie (NLS) on the Nordschleife on Friday, September 12th.

In preparation for this exciting venture, Verstappen recently raced with a Porsche Cayman GT4 CS of the Lionspeed GP team to obtain his Nordschleife driver's license. Interestingly, Thierry Vermeulen, son of Verstappen's manager Raymond Vermeulen, has already obtained his Nordschleife driver's license with Lionspeed GP in the Cayman.

Verstappen's first race in a GT3 car will take place in the ninth round of the NLS with the Swiss team Emil Frey Racing on September 27th. He will be driving a Ferrari 296 GT3, marking his first time racing with this vehicle. However, it's important to note that due to the rules of the NLS, each driver can only have one license, and Verstappen will not be racing under a pseudonym.

The race will be governed by the Balance of Performance regulations, which ensure equal chances for different technical concepts. These regulations will apply to all drivers, including Verstappen. This means that any unofficial lap records he may have set with the Ferrari 296 GT3 can no longer cause speculations or discussions.

Before he can race with the Ferrari 296 GT3, Verstappen must first participate in a less powerful vehicle. After completing the driver's course, he will start for Lionspeed GP in the Porsche Cayman on Saturday, September 13th.

It's worth mentioning that if Verstappen follows the "Platinum" category rules, he could obtain his Nordschleife driver's license for participation with a GT3 car in just one race. This would require him to start on two different cars on Saturday and complete a total of 14 rounds without penalty.

The DMSB, the governing body of the NLS, has emphasized that the same rules apply to everyone, and this is not an exception for Verstappen. This promises a fair and exciting race for all involved.
