Urban Grey Rocks Hills of Rock 2025 with a Powerful Message

Urban Grey, the Bulgarian hardcore band known for their unwavering commitment to human values and relentless pursuit of their goals, took centre stage at Hills of Rock 2025 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

The ethos of Urban Grey resonated deeply with their largest audience yet, as they performed on the Na Tumno stage, offering a more underground and intimate experience compared to the Main Stage. Nikolay "Bebo" Berberov and Chavdar "Chavo" Valchev, the band's guitarists, along with Dobromir Ganchev, the vocalist, delivered a setlist that included tracks like "Freak Show", "P.I.G.", "Compromised", "Contro****l", "Behind the Mask of Justice", and "Treachery".

Fists raised and voices joining Ganchev's megaphone shouts were common sights during the performance, reflecting the crowd's connection to the band's message. Urban Grey's songs often take aim at Bulgaria's realities, addressing themes such as financial manipulation, authoritarian tendencies, and political deceit.

In "The Solution is the Problem", from their 2014 album Age of Awareness, Urban Grey expresses frustration over low wages and predatory lending patterns in Bulgaria. The band urges younger musicians to focus on rehearsals and to "say everything you think - experiment, be brave."

Urban Grey sees themselves less as political actors and more as musicians whose style naturally channels rebellion. The performance at Hills of Rock 2025 was a statement of defiance, channeling the frustrations of the Bulgarian people regarding corruption scandals, rising costs of living, and mistrust of institutions.

Bebo, one of the guitarists of Urban Grey, believes that "true art happens when a band follows its own ideas." Over the past two decades, Urban Grey has spent their time building a reputation for independence, choosing to stay outside the commercial music machine to keep their message uncompromised.
