Vibrant urban landscapes: Street artist Dared illuminates the gritty streets of Berlin

In the vibrant streets of Berlin, a mysterious street artist known as Dared has been leaving his mark. Known for his pasted images of French bulldogs, foxes, and bats on city buildings, Dared's work has become a beloved part of the city's urban landscape.

Dared's artistic journey began in Marzahn as a teenage graffiti artist. His style evolved over time, growing out of a lone graffiti artist into a recognised street artist. Despite facing confrontation from larger graffiti groups, Dared persevered, driven by his passion for art.

The turning point in Dared's career came when he was inspired by the idea of having many gods as acquaintances and normal interactions with spirituality in India. This experience led to a more empathetic and aware approach in his art, which is evident in his unique characters and the stories they tell.

One of Dared's most iconic characters is Phatty, a French bulldog with human-like attributes. Phatty is cosy, sporty, and enjoys dressing up, making him a beloved figure in Dared's imaginary land, the Red Forest. Faye, a fox character, represents urban foxes encountered during Dared's late-night work. She is depicted as female, intelligent, and having a positive meaning in various cultures. Batsy, an anthropomorphised bat, is goofy and science-oriented, representing vision in his world.

The Red Forest is an imaginary land created by Dared, where Faye, Phatty, and Batsy live. This land serves as the backdrop for Dared's tales, which aim to create a mirror to society and surprise the audience with stories around his heroes, drawing them out of their everyday lives and struggles.

Dared's work has taken him around the world, with his paste-up Phattys appearing in cities like Texas, Paris, London, and Mallorca. His dedication to his art is unwavering, as he sacrifices everything to keep his art alive.

Currently, Dared is working on the facade of a new cafe in Kreuzberg. He also holds workshops for aspiring artists in stencil-making and character development, and occasionally gets commissioned for private pieces. In the future, Dared plans to introduce new characters to Phatty and the gang, including a squirrel and an imaginative animal that he will develop entirely himself.

Dared's rekindled passion for street art after attending an event at RAW in Berlin, where he learned about creating art without letters using brushes and paint. His work is influenced by Japanese anime, anthroposophical art, and the time he spent living in India. Batsy, often pictured holding a book (reading), is a testament to Dared's love for knowledge and learning, while Faye's role as a protector of the Red Forest reflects Dared's empathetic and aware approach to his art.

Phatty, Faye, and Batsy have become symbols of Dared's unique style and approach to street art. Their stories serve as a reminder of the power of art to transport us, to surprise us, and to reflect the world around us. As Dared continues to create and inspire, we can expect to see these beloved characters popping up in cities around the world.
