Victim Remains in Dresden Following Stabbing Incident
John Rudat, a 20-year-old American, is currently recuperating at the University Hospital in Dresden, Germany, after a violent incident that took place on a tram in Dresden-Neustadt on the night of August 23rd.
According to reports, Rudat intervened when two men were harassing women on the tram. In the ensuing altercation, one of the men attacked Rudat with a knife, causing a deep cut to his face that reached close to his lip but stopped just short of his eye. The cut also went through the cartilage in Rudat's nose.
Despite the severity of the wound, the operation performed on Rudat took only about an hour, and he is now on the road to recovery. ENT clinic's director, Thomas Zahnert, confirmed that the visible scar and lack of functional issues are the only remaining effects of the attack.
Rudat expressed his feelings of well-being during an appointment at the hospital, stating that he is feeling better. The doctors' advice to Rudat includes avoiding sports like football and keeping water away from the wound for proper healing in the coming weeks.
The police have reported that the attack did not pose a risk to Rudat's life, and there are no search results that provide information about suspects involved in the incident who have since been in custody. The suspects in the attack are a 20-year-old and a 21-year-old Syrian, both currently in custody.
Rudat has a scheduled check-up on Friday. During the operation, the doctors were able to save Rudat from potentially worse injuries, according to doctor Philipp Nahrath, who operated on Rudat. Rudat narrowly escaped losing his eye, as the attack had been a centimeter further.
We wish Rudat a speedy and full recovery, and hope that he can continue to stand up for what is right, even in the face of danger.
