French Poker Player Thomas Eychenne Wins EPT Barcelona Main Event

In a thrilling finale at the European Poker Tour (EPT) Barcelona Main Event, Thomas Eychenne emerged victorious, taking home a prize of €1,217,175. The 2,045-player field built a prize pool of €9,918,250, with the top 304 finishers sharing a piece of the pot.

The final table saw Eychenne, Umberto Zaffagnini, and Sebastian Ionita battling it out for the top spot. Eychenne, who is known for his skillful heads-up play, started the final table as the chip leader.

The action-packed final table saw several dramatic moments. Eychenne eliminated Julian Pineda Lozano, winning a prize of €379,350. However, he had a brief setback against Zaffagnini and Ionita, leaving him with a crippled stack. In a daring move, Eychenne attempted an airball bluff against Ionita, but it backfired, further weakening his position.

In a surprising turn of events, a deal was made between Eychenne and Ionita, with €100,000 left for the champion. This left Zaffagnini and Ionita vying for the second place, with Zaffagnini eventually finishing in third, winning €641,200.

The heads-up match between Eychenne and Ionita was a closely contested one. However, Eychenne skillfully stole almost every pot, holding a commanding lead. In the end, Eychenne eliminated Ionita, securing his first win in the live arena.

Eychenne's victory almost doubles his previous biggest score, which he achieved at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in 2023. This win also marks a significant milestone in Eychenne's career, as it was just a week after Leon Sturm took down last week's €100,000 Super High Roller at the same event, where Eychenne had finished as the runner-up.

The 35-year-old Frenchman's victory at the EPT Barcelona Main Event solidifies his position as a force to be reckoned with in the world of poker. His strategic play and heads-up prowess were on full display throughout the tournament, making him a deserving champion.
