Victory commencement for German volleyball team in the World Cup tournament
The German women's volleyball team began their World Championship campaign in Thailand on a winning note, defeating underdog Kenya with a score of 3:0 (25:22, 25:8, 25:20).
In the opening match, Kenya took an early lead in the first set, leading 8:7. However, the Germans turned the tables due to strong receptions by libero Anna Pogany and more frequent errors by Kenya. The set ended in favour of the Germans.
The Kenyan team found it difficult to catch up in the second set. The German team's improved defensive play and the frequent use of diagonal attacker Emilia Weske and outside hitter Lina Alsmeier contributed to their lead.
The third set started with a small lead for Kenya, but the Germans regained their composure, thanks to a strong serving run by Antonia Stautz. This helped the team maintain their favourites' role and secure the win.
Camilla Weitzel, the team captain, stated that the team had to adapt to Kenya's playing style. Despite initial struggles during extended periods of the match, the team was able to find their rhythm and adapt.
Looking ahead, the German team will face Vietnam on Monday at 12:00 CET. The match will be available online on ZDF. The coach of the team is Giulio Bregoli.
This World Championship features 32 teams and will now take place every two years. The German team is expected to be the favourite against Vietnam.
