In August 2025, heavy monsoon rains caused severe flooding in Rajasthan, particularly in Sawai Madhopur. Over 100 people were evacuated, at least 13 died, and roads and crops were destroyed. However, a viral video claiming to depict this flooding is circulating on social media, causing confusion among the public.

The viral video, it turns out, is not a depiction of the real flooding in Sawai Madhopur. Google's 'SynthID' tool, a platform designed to detect content created by AI models, was used to confirm the video's AI-generated nature. The video was generated using artificial intelligence and contains multiple visual inconsistencies, such as the shapes of sheep and goats, unnatural water and tree movements, two-headed goats, and objects floating in an unnatural manner.

The AI-generated video showing flooding in Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, was created by the Indian news outlet The Quint. Despite its misleading nature, the real visuals of flooding and waterlogging in Sawai Madhopur have been reported by various media outlets. Villages like Surwal, Dhanoli, and Gogor were submerged due to the flooding, and rescue operations are ongoing by the Army, NDRF, and SDRF.

The Surwal Dam in Sawai Madhopur overflowed, creating a 2-km-long crater. Authorities are continuing relief efforts in Sawai Madhopur amid warnings of more rain. It is important to note that the viral video should not be taken as evidence of the actual flooding situation in Sawai Madhopur.

Several media outlets have provided links to the real visuals of the flooding in Sawai Madhopur, allowing the public to stay informed and supported during this difficult time. The public is encouraged to verify information before sharing it on social media to prevent the spread of misinformation.
