Violence erupts in a Portland anti-ICE protest, prompting the mayor to further reinforce the city's sanctuary stance.

In the heart of Portland, Oregon, chaos erupted on September 1 as anti-ICE protesters clashed with law enforcement outside the city's ICE field office. The violent scenes marked the latest in a series of tense incidents at the site over the past few months.

The clashes began when law enforcement, in an attempt to disperse the crowd, used rubber bullets, tear gas, and flash bangs. Video footage shows police clearing out the area, with protesters yelling at law enforcement in response. A flag was burned by protesters outside the facility on that day.

The city's progressive-leaning council is exploring ways to expel ICE from the detention facility, which has become a flashpoint for violent clashes. Portland Mayor Keith Wilson reaffirmed the city's commitment to sanctuary policies, stating that the city will not engage with federal immigration enforcement. He also vowed that local police would not aid ICE.

Mayor Wilson is coordinating with state and federal allies to manage potential clashes. The identity of the Portland state politician working to coordinate and manage potential conflicts remains undisclosed.

In response to the threats against ICE officers, ICE Deputy Director Madison Sheahan stated that historic threats will not deter them from their work. Sheahan also mentioned support for ICE officers and protection of their families from doxxing and threats.

Michael Dorgan, a writer for Digital and Fox Business, reported on the incident. He can be reached at [email protected] and followed on Twitter @M_Dorgan. Footage shows protesters rolling out a guillotine during the clashes.

It is unclear if any arrests were made during the September 1 incident. Chaotic scenes have been ongoing outside the facility since June, including an incident where protesters blocked law enforcement vehicles. At least two protesters were seen using riot shields to protect themselves from munitions.

The city remains on edge, with tensions running high between protesters and law enforcement. As the situation continues to unfold, updates will be provided.
