Violent Clash between Ingush and Ossetians Occurs Along Shared Frontier

In a series of disturbing events, a mass brawl involving over 300 people took place near the Chermen checkpoint separating Ingushetia and North Ossetia on Sunday evening. According to reports from the Telegram channel Rozysk Ingushetii, two domestic incidents triggered the conflict.

The initial incident was said to have taken place within the village of Chermen, contrary to an earlier statement from the Ministry of National Policy of Ingushetia that placed the conflict in Bazorkino. Representatives of the republic's authorities, including Deputy Prime Minister Irbek Tomaev, quickly arrived at the scene to assess the situation.

A second incident occurred in a North Ossetian shop, where four Ingush individuals allegedly beat two local residents following a verbal altercation. The Telegram channel Ossetia reported that the situation was resolved by the police and the National Guard.

The cause of both incidents was a domestic conflict, which unfortunately escalated into a larger scale confrontation after news of the attacks spread on social media. The incident led to the roads leading into and out of the village of Chermen and the Caucasus highway being blocked.

The Chermen checkpoint has been a source of controversy in Ingushetia, with local residents and activists demanding its removal. The conflict, involving residents from both North Ossetia and Ingushetia, specifically young people from both ethnic groups, has been linked to these two initial domestic disputes between Ingush and Ossetians.

In response to the escalating tensions, North Ossetian Head Sergei Menyailo warned that domestic conflicts in the republic could escalate into inter-ethnic ones. He also instructed law enforcement agencies to block entrances into the republic "to prevent escalation" in such cases.

Meanwhile, Ingush locals are calling for the dismantling of the federal checkpoint that marks the administrative border and is a source of tension. The Ministry of National Policy of Ingushetia has confirmed the brawl and is making efforts to settle the conflict.

New details of the conflict continue to emerge from the Telegram channel Rozysk Ingushetii, with security forces separating the sides and continuing to be on duty at the site to prevent repeated clashes. The issue of eliminating the checkpoint has been raised at the official level, adding another layer of complexity to the ongoing situation.
