Visit Recap: Ambassador Oleksii Makeiev of Ukraine honored in the city's prestigious Golden Book

In the heart of Germany, the city of Göttingen has been steadfast in its support for Ukraine, particularly its partner city Ochtyrka. On January 24, 2025, Ukrainian Ambassador Oleksii Makeiev signed the Golden Book of Göttingen, symbolising the strong bond between the two cities.

Ambassador Makeiev expressed his gratitude for the aid measures initiated by Göttingen. Three fire trucks filled with material donations are set to be handed over to Ochtyrka in February, while in March, a sports field, sports equipment, solar panels, and a generator, worth 120,000 euros, will be sent.

Mayor Pavlo Kuzmenko of Ochtyrka thanked the Göttingen residents and administration for their initial aid after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The blue and yellow stele in front of the New Town Hall of Göttingen, set up after the start of the war, will remain standing until peace is achieved.

Mayor Petra Broistedt of Göttingen welcomed Ambassador Makeiev and assured further aid and support for Ochtyrka. She also emphasised that Göttingen's support for Ukrainians and Ochtyrka would not end.
