In September 2024, the highly anticipated film "Sacrifice" is set to make its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival. Directed by Romain Gavras, this thought-provoking movie follows Mike Tyler, played by Chris Evans, as he attempts a comeback after a personal crisis and subsequent soul-searching.

The movie was filmed in various locations, including a marble quarry in the city of Volakas in Northern Greece, and a volcano near Santorini for the movie's volcano sequences. 400 extras were brought in to fill out the space for the black-tie environmental charity gala scene, where the movie begins.

Romain Gavras, known for his provocative and challenging work, enlisted Will Arbery, a writer from the HBO sensation Succession, for the script. The film dissects myth-making in its many forms, and Charli XCX, who plays a popstar in the movie who calls herself "mother nature", adds an intriguing twist to the narrative.

The filmmakers used donkeys to carry equipment uphill to the volcanic shooting location, reflecting the movie's themes of resilience and survival. The director notes that the film, at its core, is about people trying to figure out their place in the world and make it a better one.

However, the peace at the gala is interrupted by a violent radical group led by Joan, played by Anya Taylor-Joy. The movie is an attempt to question the world, rather than provide answers, and it is sure to spark conversations and debates among viewers.

"Sacrifice" is associated with multiple production companies including A24 (U.S.), Lionsgate Films (U.K.), Alamode Film/Wild Bunch Germany (Germany & Austria), Lucky Red/Teodora Film (Italy), Sharmill Films (Australia & New Zealand), Elevation Pictures (Canada), Elastica/BTeam Pictures (Spain), and September Film. The movie was presented to buyers at the 2024 Cannes film market, and Sacrifice is looking for distribution at TIFF, with CAA Media Finance and Rocket Science handling sales.

As the release date approaches, fans of Chris Evans and Anya Taylor-Joy, as well as those interested in environmental and social issues, are eagerly awaiting the debut of this powerful and thought-provoking film. And who knows? After the success of "Sacrifice", Romain Gavras might just consider making a "nice story in a small apartment" next.
