In the first half of 2025, the global automotive industry witnessed a significant surge in electric vehicle (EV) sales, with Volkswagen Group taking the lead in this electrifying trend.
Volkswagen Group, a powerhouse in the automotive sector, delivered nearly 150,000 electric vehicles (BEVs) year-on-year, marking a nearly 89% increase in Europe alone. This impressive growth was driven by strong performances across various brands within the Group.
The VW ID.4 / ID.5 was the best-selling electric model within the Group, with 84,900 units sold. The VW ID.3 followed closely behind with 60,700 vehicles delivered. The Audi Q4 e-tron (incl. Sportback) and the Skoda Enyaq (incl. Coupé) and VW ID.7 (incl. Tourer) each sold 44,600 and 38,700 units respectively. A new addition to the list, the Audi Q6 e-tron (incl. Sportback), sold 36,500 units.
Skoda, a brand under the Volkswagen Group, more than doubled its BEV sales, recording a 147.8% increase to 73,000 units. The Skoda Elroq was a strong newcomer with 34,300 deliveries.
Volkswagen's commercial vehicle division, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, delivered 25,500 electric vans in the first half of 2025, a 73.4% increase compared to H1 2024. Traton Group, another commercial vehicle division, delivered 1,300 electric trucks, marking a 116.7% increase from H1 2024.
The US market saw mixed results, with BEV sales rising from 25,200 to 31,300 (+24.3%) over the six-month period, but Q2 deliveries dropped slightly by 5.2%. China, however, experienced a decline in BEV deliveries, dropping from 90,600 to 59,400 (-34.5%).
The U.S. market was bolstered by the Cupra Born, which rounded out the top 10 with 22,100 units sold. The Porsche Macan EV made a powerful comeback with 25,900 vehicles sold. Scania delivered 220 electric trucks, a 100% increase from the previous year, while MAN delivered 810 electric trucks, a 237.5% increase from the previous year.
Navistar, an international company, delivered 180 electric trucks in H1 2025, a 5.9% increase from the previous year. Volkswagen Truck & Bus, on the other hand, saw a 37.5% decrease in electric truck deliveries.
However, the most impressive growth was seen in Porsche, where BEV sales skyrocketed from 9,000 to 34,200 units in H1 2025, a 279% increase, powered by the electric Macan. Audi also saw a significant increase in BEV sales, delivering 101,400 BEVs in H1 2025, a 32.3% increase, supported by new PPE models.
Across all markets and drivetrains, Volkswagen delivered 4,4 million vehicles in the first half of 2025, with BEVs making up 10.57% of that total. BEV deliveries in the "Rest of the World" rose from 17,300 to 27,000, an increase of 55.8%. SEAT/Cupra doubled its BEV sales to 37,600 units in H1 2025, a 105.3% increase.
The strongest increase in BEV deliveries by Volkswagen AG in the first half of 2025 was recorded in Germany, where the VW Group captured a 40.5% market share in the electric vehicle market in July 2025. The ID. Buzz (incl. Cargo) reached 27,600 units, further cementing Volkswagen's position as a leader in the EV market.
This surge in electric vehicle sales indicates a promising future for the automotive industry, with Volkswagen Group leading the charge towards a more sustainable and electric future.
