New Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport and Golf R Models Unveiled

Volkswagen has unveiled the latest additions to its popular Golf range, with the release of the Golf R and Golf R Estate, as well as the highly anticipated Golf GTI Clubsport. The new models are part of the Golf 8.5 range, which aims to address the issues found in the previous Golf 8.0, particularly in terms of interior quality, infotainment, and software glitches.

The Golf R and Golf GTI Clubsport are now available for purchase in the UK, with prices starting from £41,665 for the former. However, no prices have been announced for the Golf GTI Clubsport yet, but it is expected to cost over £40k when it goes on sale later in the summer.

The Golf GTI Clubsport is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine producing 296bhp, sent to the front wheels through a seven-speed DCT. It can accelerate from 0-62mph in just 5.6 seconds and has a top speed of 155mph. With the optional 'Race Package', the top speed increases to 167mph.

The Golf GTI Clubsport comes with the same updates as the rest of the Golf 8.5 range, including new infotainment with MIB4, backlit sliders for volume and temperature, some actual buttons, and a new AI personal assistant. It also features cosmetic improvements such as tweaks to bumpers, new lights front and back, and a glowing VW logo on the grille.

For those seeking a more sporty look, a launch Black Edition model is available for the new Golf R and Golf R Estate.

The new models also boast chassis tweaks, with the Golf GTI Clubsport featuring Dynamic Chassis Control, more focused steering and front-end geometry, bigger brakes, and a centralized Vehicle Dynamics Manager.

The new Volkswagen Golf 8.5 represents a significant step forward for the brand, offering improved performance, technology, and design. With the Golf R and Golf GTI Clubsport leading the charge, it's clear that Volkswagen is committed to delivering high-quality vehicles that meet the needs and expectations of its customers.

While no prices have been announced for the Golf GTI Clubsport yet, recent listings for models from 2023 and early 2024 with low mileage suggest that it will cost approximately between €35,990 and €38,750 before its summer sale.

Stay tuned for more updates on the Golf GTI Clubsport and the rest of the Golf 8.5 range.
