Volunteer gathering at Schloss Wörth in the evening, organized especially for the district
In the picturesque towns of Obertraubling and Wolkering-Gebelkofen, a celebration of community spirit and dedication took place recently. The event, organised by the team of the volunteer agency, was a testament to the hard work and commitment of several local residents.
At the heart of the festivities was Markus Kellner, a man who wears many hats in these communities. For many years, he has been the sole organist at the filial church of St. Johannes Baptist in Wolkering-Gebelkofen. His musical talents extend beyond the church, as he leads a small church choir and accompanies the Easter and Christmas services.
But his roles don't end there. Since 2000, Markus Kellner has been actively involved as a youth group leader. He spends countless hours preparing the young people for their roles, planning various leisure activities, and organising the annual summer camp. His dedication and hard work were recently recognised when he was elected as the scribe and treasurer of the OGV Gebelkofen in 2003.
In 2002, Markus Kellner founded the KlangWoGe choir, which he still leads today. His organisational skills were also evident in managing the finances of the association reliably and in an orderly manner.
In Obertraubling, another community pillar was honoured. Karl Span, a member of the sports club since 1968, has served as a handball coach from 1971 to the present. He coached various handball teams, including the women's team that was promoted to the Landesliga in 2014.
The event also recognised the long-term volunteer engagement of several individuals. Hermann Achmann, Soleil Voelkl, Erna Ellmann, Eva and Nico Kroseberg, Gabriela Seitz, Rolf and Hansjuergen Kroseberg received the Bavarian Volunteer Card for their dedication.
County Councilor Tanja Schweiger took the opportunity to thank citizens for their engagement in various fields at the community or county level. She presented awards to Ulrich Brill, Alfred Loritz, Martin Soetz, Thomas Hengl, and Albert Schiegl for their work as nature conservation wardens, beaver advisors, and wasp and hornet commissioners respectively.
Josef Froschhammer, Erich Lichtenegger, Johann Lehner, Josef Alzinger, and Wilhelm Eisenbeis received certificates and presents for their long-standing service as field jurors.
The event's musical framework was provided by the jazz and folk trio "Adabei", while the flower decoration was beautifully arranged by Sabine Boxan, Marianne Neuner, and Gerdi Raith from the OGV Woerth.
Two individuals were honoured with the Bavarian Minister President's Medal. Markus Kellner was recognised for his exceptional commitment as sexton in the filial church of St. Johannes Baptist in the parish of Wolkering-Gebelkofen. Sieglinde Baumann received the medal for her long-standing service as church treasurer and reliable point of contact for architects in St. Michael Church Administration in Eitlbrunn.
This celebration was a reminder of the important role that dedicated individuals play in our communities, and a testament to the spirit of volunteerism that thrives in Obertraubling and Wolkering-Gebelkofen.
