Volvo XC60 Claims Japanese Car of the Year Title Over BMW 5-Series and Toyota Camry
The Volvo XC60 has proven its global appeal, securing top spots in various car competitions across Japan, the UK, and the US. This SUV's latest victory, the 2018 North American Utility of the Year, follows its success in 2017 as the Japanese Car of the Year.
In a head-to-head battle for Japan's biggest car award, the XC60 narrowly beat the Skoda Kodiaq SUV and the BMW 5 Series to claim the title. The XC60's victory marks the first time in Japan Car of the Year's 38-year history that Volvo has won an award. It was 62 votes ahead of the Toyota Camry in the competition.
Meanwhile, in the UK, the new XC60 was named the 2018 UK Car of the Year, 52 votes ahead of the BMW 5-Series. The XC60's success in the US was equally impressive, as it won the SUV of the Year in the 2018 North American Utility of the Year competition, making it the second time a Volvo SUV has won this prestigious award, following the XC90 in 2015.
The Volvo XC40 also made waves in the competition, beating the Toyota Corolla Sport and the VW Polo to secure its place. In Japan, the XC40 was named the Japan Car of the Year 2018, but the winner of the overall title was the Nissan Leaf EV.
The new XC60 shares many of the qualities that have made the XC90 so successful, offering a more wieldy design and styling that looks both familiar and new. The new Volvo V60 Estate has also been revealed as part of the new 60 Series range.
With these latest wins, the Volvo XC60 continues to demonstrate its strong performance in international car competitions, further solidifying its position in the market. The SUV's consistent dominance serves as a testament to Volvo's commitment to creating high-quality, award-winning vehicles.
