Volvo Unveils New XC70 Plug-In Hybrid: Long-Range Electric Capability and Advanced Safety Features

Volvo Cars has officially unveiled its new XC70 plug-in hybrid, which is now in production in China and available for pre-order. However, the automaker has yet to announce a launch date for the American market.

The new XC70 is built on Volvo Cars' new Scalable Modular Architecture (SMA) platform for plug-in hybrids, designed to provide a smooth and efficient driving experience. One of the standout features of the XC70 is its active grille shutter at the front, similar to the fully electric Volvo EX90 and EX30.

In terms of safety features, the new XC70 offers Pilot Assist ADAS and Park Pilot Assist for a relaxed driving experience. Volvo-standard safety features such as BLIS and City Safety are also included, along with radars, cameras, and sensors for collision avoidance. Active navigation support is also available, ensuring a safe and efficient journey.

The tech-focused interior of the new XC70 is equipped with a 12.3-inch driver display and a 15.4-inch central display, providing drivers with all the necessary information at a glance. The XC70's hybrids have fared better on the software front than the EX90.

One of the most impressive features of the new XC70 is a massive 92-inch augmented reality heads-up display, which projects important information directly onto the windshield. The XC70's aerodynamic efficiency contributes to its long electric range, offering 200 km (nearly 125 miles) of all-electric driving.

Håkan Samuelsson is the new president and chief executive of Volvo Cars. He teased the new XC70 as a China-only model back in May, but its official debut has now been announced. No word yet on European (or American) pricing for the new XC70.

The new XC70's vertical C-shaped taillights are integrated flush into the rear glass, giving the vehicle a sleek and modern look. The XC70's long range plug-in hybrid is set to make waves in the electric vehicle market, offering a combination of performance, safety, and technology that is sure to appeal to a wide range of drivers.

Stay tuned for more updates on the availability of the new Volvo XC70 in the American market.
