In the world of music, the iconic figures of Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin have been immortalised in the pages of "The Great Rock Journey: Rocker's Hitchhiker's Guide." However, the book's protagonists, named Jimi and Janis, are fictional characters inspired by these legends.

Author Jesús Jiménez Cuenca has crafted a humorous and relaxed narrative about these two journalists as they embark on a time-traveling adventure to save the world from the perceived threat of reggaeton. Interestingly, Jiménez Cuenca himself has expressed a broad ignorance of reggaeton, preferring the powerful voices and instrumentation of rock.

The story sees Jimi and Janis interacting with musical icons like Freddie Mercury, David Bowie, and Paul McCartney during their travels through time. They visit iconic moments in the history of rock, such as the Live Aid Festival at Wembley Stadium in 1985, where artists like David Bowie, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger, Madonna, Paul McCartney, Queen, U2, and Neil Young performed.

Despite the book's focus on rock, it also acknowledges the exponential growth of urban music in the 21st century. The birth of styles due to the mixture of different cultures and rhythms is likely to continue in the future. In fact, the only reggaeton artist mentioned in the book is Daddy Yankee.

Jiménez Cuenca has confirmed that there will be a trilogy for the book, with each book containing 15 chapters. He has already finished five chapters of the second book and has the script for the third book. The DeLorean car from the "Back to the Future" franchise is used in the book for time travel.

The book was created through a crowdfunding system, and it's not in comic format despite its cover resembling comics due to cost considerations. The end of the novel leaves the story completely open for its continuation. Rock is still present in several generations, and it's likely to continue in the headphones of many people.

A survey conducted by Statista in 2021 revealed that pop is the most listened-to genre, while rock and alternative music are in second place, and urban music is in third place. Despite this, the book aims to exalt rock and put it on the pedestal of the history of music.

However, Jiménez Cuenca does not believe that reggaeton is the cause of the current ostracism of rock. He attributes young people changing their tastes as another factor contributing to the decline of rock. The term "hate" might be too strong to describe Jiménez Cuenca's feelings towards reggaeton.

In conclusion, "The Great Rock Journey: Rocker's Hitchhiker's Guide" is an exciting and humorous take on the world of rock music, offering a unique perspective on its history and future.
