Water infrastructure update: Allendorf installs new drinking water pipeline

In the heart of Allendorf, a significant infrastructure project is underway. Stadtwerke Gießen (SWG), the city's utility provider, is constructing a new drinking water main pipeline in Kahlweg.

The project, scheduled to begin on August 18, 2025, is a part of a cooperative effort between Middle Hessian Water Utilities and SWG. Stephan Henkelmann, the spokesperson for Stadtwerke Gießen, will act as the primary point of contact for updates and information regarding the construction.

The new pipeline will run under both the sidewalk and the roadway in Kahlweg, ensuring the continuous supply of drinking water to Gießen. However, the construction work may cause temporary disruptions to water supply in the area. SWG is making every effort to complete the work as quickly as possible to minimise these disruptions.

Residents and visitors should be aware that the street in Kahlweg will be closed in sections for traffic during construction. A detour has been signposted for through traffic, and parking spaces in the affected areas will not be available during the construction period.

SWG understands the inconveniences caused by construction work and has stated that they are aiming to keep noise and other disturbances as low as possible during the project. The sidewalks in the affected areas will be usable in a restricted manner during construction, and residents are encouraged to drive up to the construction site if necessary.

The construction work is expected to be completed by the end of September, and SWG is optimistic that the project will be finished within the planned time frame. The new pipeline is a crucial part of the infrastructure maintained by SWG, which is responsible for the supply of drinking water to Gießen and the maintenance and expansion of the drinking water network in the city.

For updates on the construction progress, residents can contact Stephan Henkelmann, the spokesperson for Stadtwerke Gießen. SWG appreciates the understanding and cooperation of the community during this important project.
