In a significant step towards improving access to clean water in Abuja's satellite towns, President Bola Tinubu has fast-tracked the construction and expansion of water supply networks in the Bwari Area Council.

The project, inaugurated on Wednesday in Abuja, was initially designed to run for 18 months but has received approval to be completed earlier. This development comes as part of Tinubu's firm commitment to delivering potable water across these towns.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, oversaw the inauguration ceremony. He emphasised the project's importance, stating, "Today, we are in Bwari. Tomorrow, we will be in Karu." The project, starting in Bwari and Karu, is set to extend to Kuje, Kwali, Gwagwalada, and Abaji before the end of Tinubu's tenure.

The project forms part of the FCT Regional Master Plan, aimed at developing satellite towns alongside the city center. The scheme, covering over 198 kilometers of pipelines, would serve Bwari Township, Ushafa, Kuduru, Jigo, Kuchuku, and other adjoining communities.

The Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Richard Dauda, described the project as a significant milestone. He highlighted that the project would create over 1,600 jobs, enhancing public health and the quality of life in these communities.

President Tinubu has shown his support for the project by approving the release of 50 per cent of the total contract sum to CGC Nigeria Limited to expedite delivery. This decision has secured the contractor's commitment to complete the project earlier.

Dr Mariya Mahmoud, expressing gratitude to President Tinubu for his visionary leadership, assured the residents that the federal government would not start and abandon the project. The Minister of the FCT also urged traditional rulers, youths, and women to safeguard the project to ensure its successful completion.

When President Tinubu assumed office, he pledged to make clean water accessible in all satellite towns. This commitment is now being implemented, marking a significant step towards improving the living conditions of many Abuja residents.

The contract for the expansion and construction of water supply networks in the Bwari Area Council was awarded on August 29, 2025, by the relevant local authority. However, the exact names of the person and the company are not publicly available.

As the project progresses, it is expected to bring about a noticeable improvement in the quality of life for the residents of Bwari Area Council and the surrounding communities, ensuring they have access to clean and potable water.
