Waterworks personnel impersonators in EU political region create uncertainty
In two separate incidents that occurred on Friday, 5th September, unidentified individuals posing as waterworks employees targeted elderly women in Euskirchen-Wißkirchen and Weilerswist-Groß-Vernich. The Criminal Police are currently investigating these incidents.
In Euskirchen-Wißkirchen, around 1:00 PM, two unknown individuals rang the doorbell of an apartment building in Diemstraße, claiming a dangerous bacterium was present in the tap water. While one of the unknown individuals checked the faucet in the bathroom with an elderly woman, the second unknown individual searched the apartment. However, no items were stolen from the apartment.
In Weilerswist-Groß-Vernich, at around 12:30 PM, two unknown individuals gained entry into an elderly woman's apartment in Von-Ketteler-Straße, claiming they needed to inspect the water pipes. After the unknown individuals left, the woman discovered that jewelry had been stolen from her apartment.
The responsible persons for these incidents are two unknown males, described as one about 180 cm tall with a strong build and dark short hair, and another about 160-170 cm tall with a slim build and also dark short hair. Both were wearing dark clothing and speaking without an accent.
The Euskirchen police are urging witnesses with information about the unknown individuals to come forward and contact them. They also emphasize that unknown individuals should not be let into the apartment or apartment building in principle.
Media inquiries can be directed to the Circles Police Department Euskirchen Press Office. Suspicions of fraudulent behavior should be reported to the police immediately. Witnesses who may have encountered these individuals are asked to contact the Euskirchen police as well.
