Winnipeg Sea Bears Fall Short in CEBL Western Conference Final

The Winnipeg Sea Bears' journey in the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) Championship Weekend came to an end on Friday night, as they lost the Western Conference Final to the dominant Calgary Surge.

The Sea Bears, who finished the regular season with a record of 11-13, never led during the game, which took place at Canada Life Centre. Despite receiving an automatic berth due to hosting the CEBL Championship Weekend, they were the underdogs in the contest.

The Calgary Surge, who finished the season with a impressive 17-7 record, controlled the game from the start. Trevon Scott scored 18 points for the Sea Bears, while Will Richardson added 17 points and 10 rebounds. However, it wasn't enough to overcome the Surge's strong performance.

Simi Shittu, who was named to the All-CEBL second All-Star team and CEBL All-Canadian team, had a rough shooting night, going 4 for 17 (23 per cent). Despite a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, his performance was not enough to lead the Sea Bears to victory.

On the other side, Khalil Ahmad was named Finals MVP with 16 points and 9 rebounds for the Surge. Elijah Lufile contributed with 9 rebounds, while Nathan Cayo scored 14 points. Ahmed Hill added 13 points off the bench, and Ron Curry chipped in with 10 points.

The Eastern Final saw the Niagara River Lions defeat the Scarborough Shooting Stars 93-91, setting up a matchup between the River Lions and the Surge in the CEBL Championship final. The final score of the Western Conference Final was 90-79.

The CEBL Championship Weekend final will take place at Canada Life Centre, with the Niagara River Lions and Calgary Surge battling it out for the championship. The Sea Bears will have to wait until next season to make another run at the title.
