Whodunit tale in the ominous Black Forest: The Dead
In the heart of the Black Forest, a small valley shrouded in myths and superstitions, the events of the mystery thriller "Holltal" unfold. Directed by Thorsten Näter, this 90-minute film, rated 12 by the FSK, immerses viewers in a web of secrets and suspense.
At the centre of the mystery is Katharina Auerbach, a woman who mysteriously disappeared during a stop in Holltal four years ago. Her ex-husband, Matthias Auerbach, a criminal technician, played by Heino Ferch, refuses to accept her death and is determined to solve the mystery. His search leads him to the rocky mountains of Holltal, where he discovers the skeleton of a woman, confirmed through DNA tests to be that of Katharina.
Matthias's investigation causes dismay among the authorities, who initially suspect no foul play in Katharina's disappearance. However, each resident of Holltal appears to have a secret to hide, making normal interaction impossible. The residents seem entangled in events spanning generations, adding layers of complexity to the mystery.
The film also introduces key supporting characters such as Birgit Kraft, played by Heidy Forster, and Gisela Beierle, played by Elisabeth Schwarz. Birgit, in particular, is involved in the unfolding mystery and adds depth to the storyline.
Inka Frank, a young teacher, played by Nadja Uhl, is also a central character. She was given a ride by Katharina through a carpooling service before her disappearance. The film follows Inka's journey as she grapples with the truth and helps Matthias uncover the secrets of Holltal.
"Holltal" is a gripping thriller that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats. With its intricate plot, engaging characters, and atmospheric setting, it is a must-watch for fans of the genre.
