Wiesn festival of 2025 won't feature the iconic ride - Boandlcarousel owner maintains a special bond with it
The much-loved Calypso ride is set to make a comeback at the Oide Wiesn in Munich, following a heartfelt fight by the Winheim family to bring it back in 2010. This iconic attraction, unique in Germany and boasting modernity when built around 1960, will once again bring excitement to the Oktoberfest celebrations, scheduled to begin on September 20.
Hubert Winheim, the senior chief, purchased the Calypso in 1987 and took it on the road for five or six years before an accident. After his passing in 2025, the Calypso will be absent from the Oidn Wiesn. However, Adrian Winheim, Hubert's son, expresses his desire to continue operating the Calypso and return to the Oide Wiesn next year.
Peter Schöniger, the Wirt of Boandlkramerei, shares the story of the Calypso ride. He and his family, who have been innkeepers since 1971, have been serving at the Oidn Wiesn for two years. The Schöniger family, along with their son, Luis (19), are also hosting at the event this year.
The Boandlkramerei tent offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere, serving Augustiner (Edelstoff) and Franziskaner (Weißbier). For those seeking a hearty meal, the Schmankerl at Boandlkramerei is a pork fillet wrapped in herb blossoms with spaetzle, mushroom cream sauce, roasted onions, and fresh herbs, priced at 26.90 Euro. Economical dining is available from Monday to Friday (11 am to 2 pm) for 15.90 Euro, with daily changing lunch specials and discounted prices for seniors and children.
The Calypso, with its combination of rotational movements, is a popular attraction that once attracted such a crowd that the police had to maintain order. Today, the tent features a wide range of over 80 music groups, from classical folk music to Bavarian home sound, including Die kleine Egerländer Besetzung, DeSchoWieda, and Cubaboarisch 2.0.
In cooperation with tz and Münchner Merkur, Boandlkramerei is offering a contest, giving away free tokens for two half chickens and two beers to 25 readers of each publication daily. To enter the contest, call 01378/ 80 66 42 and leave your full name, address, and the keyword Boandlkramerei on the answering machine.
Seating capacity at Boandlkramerei is 2,845, including approximately 1,000 in the beer garden. With its rich history, exciting attractions, and delicious food and drink, the Oide Wiesn promises to be an unforgettable experience for all who attend.
