With my Lucid Air, I've clocked 72,000 miles without a dime spent on maintenance costs, whereas my Corvette C8 needed a service bill of $4,850 for the same mileage.
In a recent comparison, a Facebook post in a Lucid Air group highlighted the striking differences between the Lucid Air and the C-8 Corvette over 70,000 miles. The results showed that the Lucid Air not only delivers a sensation of performance but also keeps the maintenance book closed, signifying a shift towards more efficient and cost-effective options in the automotive industry.
The Lucid Air's maintenance costs were found to be significantly lower than those of a Corvette C8, saving approximately $4,800 over 72,000 miles. This is largely due to the Lucid requiring no fluid top-offs or check engine light dances, unlike many performance ICE vehicles.
Moreover, the Lucid Air's tires, which typically range from approximately €800 to €1,500 for a set of 19- or 20-inch tires, were put on at 70,000 miles free of charge, as the existing tires were in good condition. In contrast, the Corvette's tires were estimated to cost $1,600 to replace.
The Lucid Air's efficiency also outperformed the Corvette. On highway testing, the Lucid Air's efficiency often reaches around 4 mi/kWh, surpassing most rivals that typically average under 3 mi/kWh. Furthermore, the Lucid Air Grand Touring has an EPA-rated range of up to 516 miles, making it one of the longest-range EVs available.
The post also calculated the maintenance costs for 70,000 miles on the Corvette to be $4,850 more than the Lucid. This includes the cost of two transmission oil changes, totaling $1,700, and the estimated cost of transmission maintenance at least $2,200.
The Lucid Air's operating system, a 900-volt+ electrical architecture, enables ultra-fast DC charging. It can charge up to 200 miles in about 12 minutes or 300 miles in 20 minutes when plugged into 300 kW+ chargers. This speed and efficiency save valuable time, especially for long road trips.
A controlled hypermiling challenge further showcased the Lucid's engineering focus. A Lucid Air Dream Edition logged an astonishing 687.4 miles on a single charge before stopping, setting a real-world benchmark for EV efficiency. This test underscores Lucid's commitment to aerodynamics, energy-efficient components, and breakthrough mileage.
However, the Lucid Air is not without its challenges. During a desert drive, a chunk was taken out of the left front tire of the Lucid. Nevertheless, four new tires were put on the Lucid despite the condition of the other three, demonstrating the company's commitment to customer service.
In summary, the Lucid Air offers a compelling alternative to performance ICE vehicles, combining efficiency, range, and lower maintenance costs, all while delivering a thrilling driving experience.
