Atlanta Dream Secure Top Second Place in WNBA Standings

The Atlanta Dream concluded their most successful regular season in franchise history on a high note, defeating the Connecticut Sun 87-62 on Monday. The win, coupled with the Las Vegas Aces' loss to the Chicago Sky, saw the Dream take a one-half game lead over the Aces for the No. 2 seed in the play-offs.

In the game against the Sun, Rhyne Howard led the charge with 18 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds. Allisha Gray and Brittney Griner added 15 and 10 points respectively, while Maya Caldwell chipped in with 11 points. Naz Hillmon contributed 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists to the victory.

The Sun, who have missed the play-offs for the first time since 2016, were led by Saniya Rivers' 16 points. Aneesah Morrow had a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds in a losing effort.

The Dream's victory was a dominant second-half performance, outscoring the Sun 42-19 after the break.

Meanwhile, the Las Vegas Aces, who have won a franchise-record 14 straight contests, will play their final regular season game at home against the Chicago Sky on Tuesday. The Aces will also face the Los Angeles Sparks on Thursday in their last game of the season.

The win for the Atlanta Dream was a significant milestone for head coach Karl Smesko, who set a WNBA record for the most wins in a season by a first-year head coach with the victory. The Dream currently stand in second place in the WNBA standings with a record of 29-14, while the Sun have a disappointing 11-32 record. The Chicago Sky, who will face the Dream in their final game, also have a 10-32 record.
