Wolves edge past Lakers in the final stages, securing a 2-1 series advantage
In a thrilling Game 3 of the Western Conference quarterfinals, the Minnesota Timberwolves edged past the Los Angeles Lakers 116-104, moving one step closer to advancing to the next round.
The Timberwolves started the game strong, with Anthony Edwards leading the charge. Edwards added 29 points to his tally, including a highlight-reel dunk that gave Minnesota a 76-72 edge in the third quarter. His three-pointer later in the game put the Timberwolves back on top at 106-103. Naz Reid followed Edwards' three-pointer with a triple from the left wing, extending the lead to 109-103.
Rui Hachimura attempted a three-pointer for the Lakers, but the shot missed, allowing the Timberwolves to extend their lead. With 1:06 left in the game, Edwards hit a long jump shot to make it 113-104. A free throw from Austin Reaves and a layup from Edwards increased the Timberwolves' lead to 111-104.
The Lakers were not far behind, with LeBron James scoring an impressive 38 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Austin Reaves contributed 20 points, thanks largely to five three-pointers. However, it was not enough to overturn the Timberwolves' lead.
The series is now 2-1 in favour of the Minnesota Timberwolves. The top scorer for the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 3 was Luka Dončić, but the team will be looking to bounce back in Game 4, which will take place on April 27 in Minneapolis.
The Lakers had a strong start in the first half, leading 58-54 at halftime. However, the Timberwolves managed to turn the tide in the second half, demonstrating their resilience and determination.
Donte DiVincenzo and Naz Reid both scored 11 points off the bench for the Timberwolves, while Jaden McDaniels scored a game-high 30 points. The Timberwolves will be looking to capitalise on their momentum in the upcoming games.
