Woman Charged in ₹1.02 Crore Railway Job Scam Denied Preemptive Bail by Thane Court
The Thane Sessions Court has rejected the anticipatory bail application of Aruna Ashok Banka, who is accused of being a beneficiary in a Rs 1.02 crore railway job scam.
The case involves allegations of defrauding individuals by promising jobs in Indian Railways. Forged identity cards, fake appointment letters, and fabricated railway seals and stamps were used to gain the victims' trust.
Aruna Ashok Banka approached the court seeking protection from arrest in connection with the case. However, the court noted her non-cooperation with the investigation and the huge amount involved in the crime, which made it unsuitable for granting anticipatory bail.
According to the investigation, a total of Rs 1.02 crore was paid, with Rs 36.30 lakh paid via bank transfer and Rs 66.40 lakh paid in cash. The prosecution argued that Aruna Ashok Banka benefited from the fraud, as she withdrew the transferred money from her account.
The defense, on the other hand, claimed that her husband, Ashok Kumar Banka, transferred Rs 21.55 lakh to her account. They argued that she had no role in the crime and was falsely implicated due to allegations of non-cooperation.
Despite the defense's claims, the court held that Aruna Ashok Banka was a beneficiary of the fraud and that her custodial interrogation was essential given the magnitude of the scam. The court also rejected her plea for anticipatory bail, stating that it was not a fit case to grant anticipatory bail.
The case was registered at Navghar Police Station, and further investigations are ongoing to trace the funds and uncover the alleged conspiracy. The accused, along with others, allegedly defrauded a complainant and a witness of Rs 1.02 crore.
The railway job scam is a reminder of the need for vigilance against fraudulent activities and the importance of upholding the integrity of the Indian Railways. The court's decision to reject the anticipatory bail application sends a strong message that such crimes will not be tolerated.
