Women from the Union ahead of Bundesliga debut: Navigating Expectations and Pressure

Ailien Poese, the head coach, led the team from the Regionalliga to the Bundesliga. She began her coaching journey with Union Berlin back in the summer of 2012, and has been at the helm since July 1, 2022. Poese shares that they have been waiting for this historic moment for years, but they need to keep their feet on the ground.

The Bundesliga was the goal of the professionalization of the women's department, but it was not known at that time that they would be there two years later. Jennifer Zietz, the managing director of professional football women at 1. FC Union Berlin, mentions that the kick-off time is not ideal as it's the start of school.

The women's team of Union Berlin will be facing the first teams of FC Bayern München, Eintracht Frankfurt, and VfL Wolfsburg. However, their first opponent in the Bundesliga will be 1. FC Nürnberg. Zietz, a veteran player herself, shares her experience of playing in the Bundesliga for the first time and how she can help absorb the pressure for the Union Berlin players.

Poese thinks that playing on a wet surface is the best conditions for the women's team. Above all, it's about enjoying football for the team. The goal for the game against Nuremberg is to win and enjoy the atmosphere. It's not just one person out there, it's their stadium.

There are no plans for a team evening to lighten the mood, but the team will find situations where they can laugh together. Poese states that there will be pressure not just in the first game but in the following ones too, as the league is about nuances and every day is important. However, she is confident that they will handle it and turn it into energy.

Despite extensive research, there is no available information about the name of the team coached by Poese in the 2022/2023 season. Poese's playing career with Union Berlin ended at the 2nd Bundesliga, and she is now fully focused on coaching the team to success in the Bundesliga.

The pressure is increasing, but Union Berlin's women's team is ready to take on the challenge. They are determined to make a mark in the Bundesliga and bring glory to their fans at Stadion An der Alten Foersterei.
