In the picturesque town of Bargteheide, changes are afoot at the popular outdoor pool. For the upcoming 2026 swimming season, new regulations have been announced to ensure a safer environment for all visitors, particularly for children under 14 years old.

Beatrix Jahn, the pool's manager, has expressed concerns about the lack of swimming skills among younger visitors and the potential danger of drowning. In light of these concerns, the new rules require that visitors under 14 either demonstrate their swimming ability or be accompanied by an adult.

These measures are part of a preventive strategy to minimise risks in swimming pools. The same regulation is already in place in neighbouring Ahrensburg, and it is possible that other pools may follow suit.

The outdoor pool in Bargteheide can attract up to 3000 visitors on peak days, and the new regulations aim to maintain a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for everyone.

However, the introduction of these new rules has sparked a debate, with some discussing the potential impact on the price of pool fries, possibly due to increased staffing requirements.

It's worth noting that there have been occasional reports of sexual assaults in outdoor pools, and victims can seek help with a safe word. This aspect of pool safety is not directly addressed in the new regulations, but the pool manager has emphasised the importance of a secure and respectful environment for all visitors.

As the swimming season approaches, the focus in Bargteheide remains on ensuring the safety and well-being of its visitors. The pool manager, Beatrix Jahn, has expressed her support for the new regulations and is hopeful that they will contribute to a safer and more enjoyable swimming experience for all.
