He also insists that Ter Stegen should play regularly for his club before returning to the national team. Nagelsmann's sentiments are shared by Julian Nagelsmann, the coach of Ter Stegen's club, who has also emphasised the importance of taking the time needed for Ter Stegen's rehabilitation.
After Ter Stegen's comeback, Julian Nagelsmann has reiterated that the Barcelona goalkeeper should play regularly for his club to secure his position as the number one goalkeeper. The German national football team has four matches until November to secure direct qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
In the absence of Ter Stegen, Baumann has proven to be a capable replacement. He replaced Ter Stegen as the number one goalkeeper for the two games in the Nations League after Ter Stegen's knee operation. Baumann's performances have been commendable, and he has shown that he is a worthy stand-in for the experienced Ter Stegen.
The focus now shifts to Ter Stegen's recovery and his return to the field. Once he regains his form and plays regularly for FC Barcelona, he will be ready to challenge Baumann for the number one spot in the German national team.
