"World Games' Staff Squad is Transferred in Handover Ceremony"
The International World Games Association (IWGA) has announced that the 13th World Games will be held in Karlsruhe, Germany in 2029. This global event, which showcases non-Olympic sports, will take place every four years following the Olympic Summer Games.
José Perurena, the President of the IWGA, has expressed his excitement for the upcoming event, promising world-class sporting action and entertainment for the global community. The event is expected to attract around 5,000 world-class athletes from more than 100 countries.
Karlsruhe, the host city, will be a familiar venue for the World Games. It previously hosted the event in 1989, making it the first city to host the World Games of non-Olympic sports for the second time. The event in 2029 will take place after a gap of 40 years since the last time they were held in Karlsruhe.
Dr. Frank Mentrup, the Mayor of Karlsruhe, and Dr. Christiane Schenderlein, the Minister of State for Sport and Volunteering in the federal government, are both enthusiastic about the upcoming event. Funding for the 13th World Games will come from the state of Baden-Württemberg (33 million euros) and the federal government (55 million euros), totalling approximately 120 million euros.
Theresa Schopper, the Minister of Sport in Baden-Württemberg and the Chair of the Sport Ministers' Conference, has also shown support for the event. The 13th World Games will feature approximately 35 sports, providing a diverse and exciting programme for athletes and spectators alike.
Germany has a strong history in the World Games, with Team Germany delivering an outstanding overall performance at the 11th World Games in Birmingham, winning 47 medals. In the historical overall ranking since 1981, Germany stood at second place before the Chengdu Games - behind Italy.
The 13th World Games in Karlsruhe will take place from July 19 to 29, 2029. For more information about the event, or to find contact details for the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport in Germany, please visit their website.
