Worst Statistic for a Texas Football Quarterback in Over a Decade Belonging to Arch Manning
In a game heavily hyped for his debut on the road, Arch Manning, the highly-touted quarterback for the Texas football program, failed to meet the sky-high expectations in a 14-7 loss to Ohio State.
Manning completed 50.8% of his passes, totaling 170 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. His performance, however, was not without controversy. Analyst Kurt Warner, Pro Football Hall of Famer, criticized Manning's footwork, throwing motion, and accuracy.
Warner noted that Manning's throwing motion appeared to be throwing the ball really hard, which could contribute to inaccuracies. He also pointed out the inconsistency in Manning's footwork, suggesting it was sideways at times.
One of Manning's downfield interceptions was telegraphed due to a long windup, and another potential interception was overturned due to a tipped pass. Manning was 0-for-5 on passes five or more yards downfield over the first three quarters.
Matt Waldman, another analyst, criticized Manning's footwork and stated on Twitter that he believes Manning will throw inaccurately if he doesn't lead with his feet.
Despite the criticism, Manning's long-term football career may not include the 2026 NFL Draft if his grandfather's claim is correct. Archie Manning, a former NFL quarterback, stated that Arch will not enter the draft, giving him more time to hone his skills.
Manning's next game will be against San Jose State this Saturday. At just 21 years old, Manning should have plenty of practices and games to improve and address the areas highlighted in the analysis.
Despite the setback, Manning's talent and potential remain undeniable. With dedication and hard work, he has the opportunity to turn things around and solidify his place as one of the top quarterbacks in the nation.
