Yemen's Houthis Prime Minister and key political leaders perish in Israeli aerial assault
In a significant development, the Houthi rebels in Yemen announced the death of Prime Minister Ahmed Ghaleb Al Rahwi and several government ministers on Saturday. The Israeli military confirmed that it had targeted senior Houthi leaders, including the Houthi Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahawi and several ministers and high-ranking military officials in Yemen.
The airstrikes in Sanaa, the rebel-held capital, reportedly killed at least 12 senior Houthi figures, according to Israel's army radio. The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, stated that these attacks mark the beginning of further operations against Houthi terrorists.
The Houthi rebels initially denied reports that their leadership had been hit, but later confirmed the deaths of senior regime figures on Saturday. The Houthi military chief of staff, Mohammad Al Ghamari, vowed retaliation for Israel's attacks on Sanaa.
The Houthi rebels are an Iran-backed militia in Yemen. In their statement, they referred to Israel as the "criminal and treacherous Israeli enemy". Israel's military stated that it had precisely struck a Houthi terrorist regime military target in the area of Sanaa in Yemen on Thursday.
The Houthi rebels have been involved in various conflicts, including the war in Gaza and attacks on shipping in the Red Sea, causing major disruption. In response to the attacks, Al Ghamari stated that the Houthis will not stop their support for Gaza, "regardless of the scale of targeting or sacrifices required".
Mohamed Moftah, Mr. Al Rahwi's deputy, was assigned to carry out the prime minister's duties on Saturday. Al Ghamari described Israel's escalation in Gaza or against Yemen as evidence of the enemy's failure to achieve its objectives over the past two years.
No confirmation has been provided regarding the outcome of the strikes on the Houthi's chief of staff and defense minister. The Houthis began firing on Israel during the war in Gaza, and this latest development promises to escalate tensions further in the region.
