Young Innovators Unveil Novelty Mobile Application: Trivflic
In the heart of Worcester, Massachusetts, two Holy Cross students, Thomas Haigh (T.J.) and David Luigs, have created a buzz with their innovative venture, Trivflic. The idea for the app was born while T.J. was skiing down Mount Wachusett, with a vision to "gamify sports betting" using trivia questions.
Trivflic's development team is a global melting pot, with coding teams from countries including India, Philippines, Pakistan, Argentina, Brazil, Turkey, Germany, and more, contributing to its creation. The international team, hailing from Germany, India, Canada, and Brazil, has been instrumental in bringing Trivflic to life.
T.J. and David were accepted into the prestigious StartUP Worcester programme, hosted by Worcester Chamber of Commerce, WorcLab, Berkshire Bank, Venture Forum, and SCORE. This acceptance marked a significant milestone in their journey, providing them with a platform to network and fundraise.
After nearly 15 months of design, fundraising, and networking, Trivflic is now available for download on the App Store for iPhone and iPad. The app, a response to the perceived void in trivia social media, aims to fill the gap left by the fading popularity of Trivia Crack and HQ Trivia.
The co-founders, T.J. and David, have put in a lot of effort to ensure Trivflic stands out. David, in particular, writes nine trivia questions every morning, resulting in over 700 questions. The questions are interconnected and follow a theme each day, making the app an engaging and interactive platform.
Matt Nickerson '24, a student at Holy Cross, has been instrumental in documenting the journey of Trivflic. He is the Chief Features Editor of the event and a staff writer, providing insights into the development and launch of the app.
The 11th Annual Cross Tank Competition, formerly known as Shark Tank, was held through the HC Launch initiative via the Ciocca Center of Business, Ethics, and Society. Trivflic won first prize for the business ideas in the "Concept Stage" at this prestigious event, which rewards student entrepreneurs for their ingenuity and gives them a taste of the business world.
The event is featured in the "features" section, showcasing the community-based trivia app as an exciting new addition to the world of social media. With Trivflic, T.J. and David are not just creating a platform for trivia; they are offering a unique blend of sports betting and social interaction, making the world of trivia more engaging and exciting than ever before.
