In a recent statement, Zoe Osmond, CEO of GambleAware, has emphasised the urgency of protecting children's environments from being inundated with age-restricted content, particularly in the digital realm. She asserted that digital technology is moulding young attitudes in ways that regulators are struggling to keep pace with.

A survey conducted by GambleAware revealed concerning findings. It showed that 67% of respondents want to see celebrities and influencers banned from gambling promotions entirely. Interestingly, the search results do not mention any well-known personalities or influencers who have promoted online gambling platforms or participated in betting during the discussed timeframe.

Osmond further highlighted that consistent exposure to influencer-driven gambling content contributes to the normalisation of gambling among school-aged children. The survey found that 16% of children reported seeing influencers share links or sign-up codes for gambling platforms, while 14% had watched creators posting gambling tips.

Early exposure to gambling at a younger age, according to Osmond, can significantly increase the risk of young people experiencing gambling harm later in life. She stressed that it is crucial to take immediate action to safeguard children from the potential dangers of such content.

It is worth noting that no new casino promotions were mentioned in this context. The focus remains on the role of influencers and their impact on shaping young attitudes towards gambling.

As the digital landscape continues to evolve, it is essential for regulators and influencers alike to recognise their responsibilities in maintaining a safe and secure environment for the youngest members of our society. Osmond's call for action serves as a reminder that we must all work together to ensure that children are protected from the potential harms associated with age-restricted content.
