YouTube Users Suffering Malfunctions in Kazakhstan and Russia
As of the latest information, issues with the video-sharing platform YouTube continue to be reported, with users in Kazakhstan and Russia experiencing disruptions. According to data from Downdetector and Downradar, the peak of complaints about YouTube's operation was on September 4 at 23:18.
The problems have been ongoing, with reports of issues still being received as recently as 15:33 on September 5. The majority of complaints (46%) are related to video playback issues, with 23% and another 31% of users experiencing app and site problems respectively.
Disruptions have been recorded in several cities in Kazakhstan, including Almaty, which ranks second among CIS cities in terms of the number of problems with YouTube loading. Other cities affected include Nur-Sultan, Petropavlovsk, Karaganda, Semey, and Pavlodar.
The majority of complaints about YouTube come from residents of Almaty and St. Petersburg. However, no new information about the number of problems from these cities or any new cities in Kazakhstan has been reported. Slightly fewer reports were received overnight on September 5.
The causes of the ongoing issues are not entirely clear, but they seem to be connected to ongoing tensions and conflicts related to the Ukraine war, including Ukrainian drone attacks on infrastructure like the Druzhba pipeline in Russia. These disruptions have impacted supply chains, but no direct single culprit for the YouTube issues at that precise time is explicitly identified.
Despite the ongoing issues, no new information about the downtime of YouTube has been reported. Users have reported seeing a black screen instead of videos on YouTube, adding to the frustration of those affected.
As the situation continues to evolve, users are advised to monitor updates from official YouTube channels for further information.
